I picked this Canon Powershot G12 up last Friday afternoon for $499 (on sale from $569 at Blacks). I was pretty excited, since I’ve been wanting the G11 for awhile and was even more excited when the G12 was released.

It’s not much different from the G11, with minimal improvements the main being the ability to shoot 720p HD video and in-built HDR feature. The lens is 28-140mm f2.8 and has the same sensor as the Canon S95.

Now, I know I already have the Canon IXUS 80 and the Canon Rebel XSi (yes, I am a Canon lover), I needed something for in between. The Canon IXUS is small and light for events I don’t want to lug around a huge DSLR, but there are times I just don’t want to forfeit quality for convenience. This is where my G12 comes in!

The top features all the DSLR manual settings and it also has RAW functionality. So far, it seems like a great camera and I’m really excited to take some shots with this baby. Stay tuned for photos! :D

Last month I decided to invest in a zoom lens (18-200mm) because I like to travel a lot and I hate changing lenses. I decided on a Sigma lens as it’s significantly cheaper than a Canon but just as good.

Before this lens, I had the 18-55, and while I could get a wide range at 18mm, I couldn’t get up close at things at 55mm. I’m really happy with my 18-200mm lens so far!

Here’s some example shots I took with the lens.. They’re not great shots since it was a horribly cloudy day, so just disregard the image quality for the moment and check out the zoooooooooooooooom.. Professional photographers are probably rolling their eyes at me right now thinking “amateur……” Hahahaha.

So last week I decided it was about time I stepped up and got myself a proper camera. I was heavily debating whether it was worth the big bucks (never spent too much on a camera) but after much encouragement from my friends I decided to bite the bullet. Dell was also having a sale so I thought I might as well take advantage of it.

It was posted the next day and I got it the following business day. I haven’t had much time to play around with it (or had good weather either) but I’m quite happy with it. Was very sad, however when Hann didn’t mention at the time of my purchase that I could’ve paid a bit more to have HD video but then told me afterwards….. *glares at him* But I suppose I should’ve done my own research. HANN – YOU TOLD ME 4K! I HATE YOU… Kidding.

Anyway, I hope to take some shots… soon! I probably won’t get a lens for awhile and hope to make use of the kit lens for now.. I don’t know what I am doing yet! Hah.. I just like to hang it over my neck and look “pro” for now.  Haha!
